Auxiliary equipment

In order to adapt the electric motors for various cases of application we provide auxiliary equipment.
These are supposed to control the motor thermally, adjust the engine speed according to the drive requirements, optimize the cooling of the motor, decelerate the drive, determine the engine speed or monitor the drive.
We have standardized solutions for most of these requirements available.

Adaptation of the motor speed and the torque
The adaptation of the motor speed and the torque according to the requirements of the drive can be done by gear units.
For the various application cases there are following gear units to choose from:

  • helical gear
  • bevel gear
  • parallel gear
  • worm gear

 Speed measurement
When there is high demand for the dynamic of the drive as well as limited speed tolerance a speed feedback is necessary.
The speed measurement is made either by analog tachometer or digital by incremental encoder.

  • analog tachometer of standard type
    • 60 V / 1000 min-1
    • 20 V / 1000 min-1
  • incremental encoder
    • preferred type
    • 1024 impulse/rotation TTL or HTL

Brakes
The brakes we usually apply are single-disk brakes with two friction surfaces. In current-free condition the braking torque is produced through friction contact by several pressure springs.
The brake is electromagnetically released. In current-free condition the brake is immediately applied again.
According to field of application the brake is dimensioned as service brake or holding brake.

  • A service brake decelerates the complete drive and must be able to absorb the complete kinetic energy
  • A holding brake keeps the drive in a certain position and is also used for the
    deceleration during occasional emergency stops.

Thermal monitoring
Excess load of the drive or insufficient cooling can cause the overheating of the motor windings.
To protect the motor windings we offer to implement temperature monitoring in the windings.

As a standard solution we can offer the following choices:
  • Winding temperature feeler as break / close
  • PTC-thermistor
  • PT 100
  • KTY 84

Carbon brushes monitoring
For the automated monitoring of the carbon brushes length two standardized solutions are at your disposal:

  • Potential-free with switching contact at the brush rocker or
  • Potential loaded with detector brushes

Standstill heating
In case the temperature of the electric motor is highly fluctuating within the operative range we recommend the application of a standstill heating. For this purpose we use a self limiting heating tape, the heating capacity being adapted to the motor frame size.

Separate cooling
In case the drive requires a wide speed range, the power of a surface cooled motor with an own fan has to be reduced.
To increase the utilization of the motor capacity during low engine speeds, a separate cooling can be installed. This separate cooling is mounted at the motor in a radial or axial position and takes care of a constant cooling of the motor. For the separate cooling you need a separate power supply.
