Explosion-proof DC motors are specially designed for use in hazardous areas where flammable gases, vapors, or dust may occur. In these zones – especially as DC motors for zone 1 and zone 2 – certified drive systems are legally required. WINKELMANN’s explosion-proof DC motors combine tested motor EX protection with durable drive technology and high operational safety. As certified DC motors, they meet all relevant standards for safe operation in sensitive industrial environments.
As powerful industrial drives, our ATEX- and IECEx-compliant DC motors impress with high thermal resistance, robust construction, and reliable ignition protection. A DC motor EX must operate safely and consistently even under extreme environmental conditions. That is exactly what our eyplosion-proof DC motors are designed for. They are ideal for power plants, the oil and gas industry, and industrial pump applications, ensuring stable performance even during continuous operation.
Thanks to flexibly adjustable ratings such as voltage, speed, and power range, the DC motors for zone 1 and 2 can be optimally integrated into existing systems. Each motor is project-specifically configured and can be precisely adapted in terms of mechanics, connections, and protection type. International certifications such as ATEX certification, IECEx, CSA/UL, and EAC enable global use in hazardous industrial areas and provide additional investment and planning security.
Technical properties and design features
Our explosion-proof DC motors are developed for permanent operation in hazardous industrial plants. As certified DC motors, they meet all requirements for DC motors in zone 1 and zone 2. The junction boxes are optionally available in ignition protection type “e” (Increased Safety) or “d” (Flameproof Enclosure) and comply with international motor EX standards. This ensures that potential ignition sources are reliably avoided or safely enclosed.
A key quality feature is insulation class H (after F). It guarantees high thermal resistance and provides additional safety reserves – especially at elevated ambient temperatures or during continuous full-load operation. In ATEX zones, this thermal stability is crucial because a DC motor must operate reliably at all times. Our explosion-proof DC motors are therefore designed for maximum efficiency and long-term operational safety.
The robust construction ensures mechanical stability and high resistance to industrial stress. Thanks to guaranteed vibration class B, the Ex-motors operate with minimal vibration. This significantly extends the service life of the ball bearings and reduces maintenance costs and unplanned downtime. A DC motor EX thus not only provides certified explosion protection but also economic advantages in daily operation.
Moreover, our eyplosion-proof DC motors can be precisely adapted to customer-specific requirements.
